Olga Tsatsani

I’m from a small mountain village in the Peloponnese, but I was born in Canada and raised in Luxembourg. I studied History, Archaeology and Languages, moving between Athens, Lyon and Leuven.

I love travelling. Over the years I’ve lived in London, Brussels and on the island of Crete, and I’ve now made my home in Athens — one of the most historic, alive and fascinating cities in the world.

I love discovering new cultures, being close to nature, and showing my country to people from around the world. I have a special interest in the world’s languages, and one day I hope to write a novel about it all.

Tours
As an official tour guide, accredited by the Greek Ministry of Tourism, I give tours in Athens and around Greece. I guide in English, Greek, French and Spanish.

I particularly enjoy building tours that go beyond explaining what we’re looking at. A monument, a painting, a neighbourhood or an archaeological site can be the starting point for a much bigger story — about the people who lived there, the ideas they believed in, the society they built, and the Greece that exists today.

In Athens, I offer tours of:

• The Acropolis — its monuments, mythology, history and extraordinary political and cultural legacy
• The Acropolis Museum — from the archaeological discoveries to the stories behind the masterpieces
• The Ancient Agora — the heart of ancient Athens, and a place to explore the origins of democracy
• The National Archaeological Museum — a journey through the masterpieces of ancient Greek art and civilisation
• The Museum of Modern Greek Culture — one of Athens’ newest museums, and a glimpse into everyday Greek life and traditions
• Ottoman Athens — a lesser-known layer of the city’s long and complex history
• The neighbourhoods of Athens — Plaka, Monastiraki, Psyrri and the city centre, where ancient, Ottoman and modern Athens meet

Writing
My background in archaeology and history led me to writing cultural and tourism content. Most recently I wrote the Greek-language content for Visit Greece, the country’s official tourism website — original texts for around 160 destinations across Greece.

Translations
I translate cultural and historical texts between Greek, English and French. Recent work includes:
